Look to the sun

Also known as: My love affair with sunflowers

Sunflower! <3

I can’t remember when it started, really, but I know that I was never one who liked roses. Sure, I didn’t mind receiving them for Valentine’s day, but they were never my favorite flowers.

When I was younger, I thought my favorite flowers were daisies because I love the cheerful yellowness of them. I still like them, of course, but I can’t remember receiving them though. And then I started liking gerberas after a particular week-long trip to a GK site, where I received a pink gerbera before we left. Then there was also that one Valentine’s day when I received a pink one.

But if there was ever, ever one ultimate favorite flower, it would be the sunflower.

SUNFLOWER! ♥

I can’t completely explain why. I guess that’s why sometimes favorites are favorites because you can’t explain why you like them so much. Sunflowers cheer me up, be it photos, the real thing or even game characters based on the flower. I love their bright yellow color, their dark centers and how they really look like suns! I love that they can be small or tall. I love that I can eat sunflower seeds, and you can make sunflower oil and that they’re just so darn pretty.

Most of all, I love that these flowers are heliotropic — they follow the sun. I like that idea, of how the leaves and the buds of the flower turn to face the sun as it rises and as it sets. It’s almost like a metaphor: for them it’s a way to life to look to the sun, just like how it is for us to look to the Son. To follow the Son.

I guess that’s the ultimate reason why I love sunflowers. :)

And it also helps that sunflowers provide a way to get rid of zombies that invade your lawn. ;)

Achieving Weeknights

Also known as: Weeknights are better with friends.

Achieving weeknights

Weeknights are always times when I would rather go home and sleep, where I would rather go to the gym then go home and rest and read and just get ready for the next day, counting the hours until the weekend comes and I get to see them in a proper time.

But there are other times when weeknights become a bit more special, when I break out of routine and my way and meet up with some of the most awesome people I know. Most of them are friends I met from different walks of life who just happened to meet together at one place and end up having dinner together. Friends of friends are a good combination based on experience, and it’s really cool when these people merge and  become good friends like you are with them too (and it’s also cool when they bring their own friends who become a part of the group eventually!). :D

So here’s to weeknights that ACHIEVE. :)

Leap Day

Also known as: Because I’m a sucker for dates, and leap year comes every four years.

So today is a date that comes only every four years, and because like what I said there ^, I can’t let this day pass without a blog post. Yeah, I’m shallow like that.

But anyway, leap day! This calls for a leaping picture, or a jump shot:

Corny. But anyway, I obviously owe a few more entries to this, and I’m finding time to work on it soon, especially now that I am back on normal day shift. I’ll find time soon, I promise.

On another note, I have major (major) updates regarding the things I wrote in this post: I have a word and a pretty okay draft of my five year plan! :) So exciting to finally get moving on that, but it’s also very hard to really live the word I chose, especially during times that I feel anything but that word.

Lent also started last week, and it’s been very interesting so far. I’d post about what I gave up and what I decided to do. It’s challenging, but I’d like to believe there’s growth somewhere there. Especially in blurting out random nonsense online. Suffice to say that this is also stretching me to be a nicer person, and it all connects to my word for the year again. Hm, it goes full cycle — I love it.

There’s really no point in this post, except to post for the sake of posting. Four years ago, I was too busy during leap day because our team hosted an event for work. This year, I’m just at work. Doing nothing really spectacular (except maybe trying — and sometimes/often failing — to be a nicer person), except facilitating a planning later tonight. I guess this is one of the times when choosing to have an ordinary day is already special enough.

So I hope you have an extraordinary February 29, and may it make you look forward to the next leap day. :) As for me, I’m just thankful that there’s an extra day in this year for me to feel and thank God for His grace. :)

And with that, I leave you with another jump shot:

P.S. OMG it’s March tomorrow! Hello, favorite month! :)
